May Social Gathering

Please join us for our May Social Gathering, which will be held at Celtic Crossing on Thursday, May 16th, from 6pm to 8pm. This month, we are honored to welcome Enda Brennan as our guest speaker. Enda is the writer of the insightful blog "Dinneen A Day," where he delves into theoretical lexicography and explores the value of studying indigenous language in a post-colonial landscape. His focus on Dinneen's 1904 Irish-English Dictionary (Foclóir Gaedhilge agus Béarla) that opens up a world of exploration, inviting us to consider the profound lessons it holds. Enda will uncover not just linguistic insights but also deep reflections on Irish history, ancient metaphysics, and spirituality. We'll explore the intricate relationship between language and culture, as well as our connection to nature and the cycles that shape our existence – from the tides to the sun and moon, from birth to death, and from growth to harvest. As we know, the rich oral tradition of Ireland finds its roots in the language that Dinneen meticulously documented. Join us as we delve into this fascinating topic and consider the profound significance it holds for our understanding of Irish heritage and identity.
